What is AKPsi?
Alpha Kappa Psi has a large presence amongst business fraternities, while also being the oldest. What distinguishes a business fraternity form a regular one, you may ask? Alpha Kappa Psi, or AKPsi, provides its members with important skills and tips to succeed in “the professional and social aspects of college life outside of the classroom” (“Alpha Kappa Psi”). Members of AKPsi are expected to grow alongside one another, forming bonds and networking together to allocate brighter futures for those involved in their organization. Dance Marathon, Heart Walk, and Relay for Life are all examples of community service events that are hugely contributed to be Alpha Kappa Psi.
Business frats are not all about becoming more professional; the goal of AKPSi is to teach lesser known talents such as creating perfect resumes, building relationships relevant to your career path, and participating in workshops. Developing these skills simultaneously develop the leadership and organization of AKPsi members, preparing them for the career world that lays beyond college years (“Alpha Kappa Psi”).
Why You Should Join!
There are many extracurricular activities to take part in during one’s college years, such as social recreation, physical recreation, home duties, and religious activities, just to name a few (Carter 55). Being in a fraternity does not mean you cannot also do these things -- quite the contrary. I think that it is important to mention the other activities that college students are a part of, since being in Greek Life is very seldom the only organization students are involved in.
Additionally, the author of “Activities of College Students" conducted a study “represent[ing] students that are above the general scholastic average,” finding many individuals who are in Greek Life are in other communities, too. (Carter 55). By including that smarter students participated in their study, Carter implies that those who are brighter are more cooperative, and likely more active on and around campus. Seeing as this is the type of character that would join a business frat, the study remains very relevant to my chosen community. Thus, it is safe to contextualize the lives of AKPsi members, keeping in mind they are involved in various activities besides Greek Life. Don't let us fool you, being a brother is a big commitment; however, it is one that you certainly will not regret!
